Hi I'm getting a 'Relaying denied. Proper authentication required.' message when sending to some addresses.

The form sends to 8-10 committee members who all have email addresses at their own organizations, and it works fine for all but one address. I assume this message comes back from the destination server. This is displayed below in a $mail->history output. Along with my source code. Am I doing something wrong, is there another approach?

[8] => Array
(
[1244745890.3678] => Array
(
[destinationserver.ca] => Array
(
[324] => Array
(
[0] => 550 5.7.1 <email@destinationserver.ca>... Relaying denied. Proper authentication required.
)
)
)
)
)

My code is as follows:

Code:
require_once '_includes/XPM4-v.0.5/MAIL.php';

         $mail = new MAIL;
         $mail->From('delivery@example.ca','Example');
         $mail->AddTo($SendTo);
         $mail->AddHeader('Reply-to',$Email);
         $mail->Subject($Subject);
         $mail->Text($Message) OR die('error');
$c = $mail->Connect('mail.example.ca',465,'delivery@example.ca','password','tls') or die(print_r($m->Result));
if ($mail->Send('client')){
echo "<p>Your message has been sent.</p>";
     } else {
print_r($mail->History);
}

You need to see first, how you can authenticate in your mail server, there's some different settings for each server, read MAIL->Connect()

Thanks for the info.

I've tried connecting using all methods on the page you outlined and they worked fine. It appears that it is connecting fine.

I think the server on the other end is refusing to accept the email as it says relaying is not allowed.

Here's the output from my connection attempts using the default method, tls, ssl, sslv2, sslv3

default: Array ( [316] => Array ( [0] => 334 VXNlcm5hbWU6 [1] => 334 UGFzc3dvcmQ6 [2] => 235 go ahead ) )
tls: Array ( [316] => Array ( [0] => 334 VXNlcm5hbWU6 [1] => 334 UGFzc3dvcmQ6 [2] => 235 go ahead ) )
ssl: Array ( [316] => Array ( [0] => 334 VXNlcm5hbWU6 [1] => 334 UGFzc3dvcmQ6 [2] => 235 go ahead ) )
sslv2: Array ( [316] => Array ( [0] => 334 VXNlcm5hbWU6 [1] => 334 UGFzc3dvcmQ6 [2] => 235 go ahead ) )
sslv3: Array ( [316] => Array ( [0] => 334 VXNlcm5hbWU6 [1] => 334 UGFzc3dvcmQ6 [2] => 235 go ahead ) )

What should I try next?

Thanks!

If the mail server it says "relaying is not allowed" then you can't use this for relay connection, only direct (localhost) connections are allowed, from mail server configuration.

Thanks again, it appears that the issue is due to the server being added to a XBL or CBL spam list.

I guess one of the reasons it can get added is when a php script attempts to send mail with SMTP C: EHLO 127.0.0.1 instead of EHLO mail.domain.com

I can get it issuing mail.domain.com using the SMTP::connect method, but it issues 127.0.0.1 when using mail->connect.

Is it possible to get it to use mail.domain.com using mail->connect?

If not I may have to change many scripts to the SMTP method which is a bit more difficult to use.

Thanks!

View MAIL->Name documentation: http://xpertmailer.com/documentation/mail/name.html
Or, put the 7th parameter "string name" to MAIL->Connect: http://xpertmailer.com/documentation/mail/connect.html
For more informations, please consult online (or offline from XPM4 download package) documentation: http://www.xpertmailer.com/documentation/
